Road to Hampden
Wednesday, 23rd May 2012
Magic! That’s the world to describe Monday’s brilliant Tesco Bank Football Challenge event at Hampden Park as 301 children (to be exact) played on the pitch at the National Stadium.
And they were joined by Scotland stars Robert Snodgrass, who is the Leeds United captain and Suzanne Grant who plays for Celtic.
From as far north as Milton of Leys (Highlands) and Inverness (Highlands), south to Philiphaugh (Scottish Borders) and Stranraer (Dumfries and Galloway), and west to the Isle of Rothesay (Argyll and Bute) children from 30 different schools took part in a truly special day.
As well as enjoying a coaching session on the hallowed Hampden Park turf, the children took part in the Hampden Experience tour, and also enjoyed a mini funfair, within the confines of the stadium bowl!
Robert Snodgrass said: "I was very excited to be invited to the Tesco Bank Football Challenge Festival Finale for 2012 at Hampden.
“I think it is superb way to encourage young children to play football as well as sport in general.
“I have been lucky enough to play at Hampden so I know how enjoyable it must be for these children.”
